Empowering youth to build inclusive societies in Baltic Sea region through participatory budgeting

Project has ended

The aim of this project is to cultivate a strong, inclusive and dynamic civil society in the Baltic Sea Region.

Partner NGOs will aim to strengthen their own skills and knowledge how to engage underrepresented and vulnerable groups into democratic decision-making processes through participatory budgeting and transfer this know-how to schools and municipalities, prepare tools and materials in different languages for schools and municipalities to conduct their respective participatory budgeting initiatives in a measured manner and increase the level of countries’ civic empowerment, social cohesion, mutual trust within school communities and municipalities as well as integrity and accountability of decision-making processes.

The tasks of TI Estonia include:

  • translating the “Participatory Budgeting in Schools“ handbook to Russian and English languages as well as printing and disseminating it to Estonian schools. In addition, the toolkit would be added to public library database and e-Koolikott (a compilation of tools for teachers) to be able to use and download for all project partners;
  • actively participating in a 3-day study visit for exchange of experience in Lithuania including participation in networking, knowledge sharing meetings, the Participatory budgeting forum and training;
  • actively exchanging knowledge with the other partners during the course of the project.

As a result of the project there will be:

  • increased level of youth engagement in decision-making processes;
  • increased awareness about PB initiatives of other schools, municipal and national level decision-makers;
  • stronger and better informed PB community in Baltic Sea region.
