Narva Trans Hit by Betting Suspicions Again

13.11.2012

The second criminal case in two days has rocked the Estonian football world.

Results of games played by Narva Trans in the premier league, Meistriliiga, are being scrutinized and six players are under suspicion of reaping monetary gains from betting on the outcomes of games, said Prosecutor General spokesperson Katrin Lunt.

The criminal case spans a period from spring 2011 to the present.

Within the football community, Narva Trans is already essentially on probation for similar offenses. In 2010, the Football Association decided that the team would be thrown out of the Meistriliiga and European tournaments if it was caught another time.

"Our clear position is zero tolerance toward any betting on outcomes and fixing of matches," said the Football Association in a statement, adding that it will await results of a criminal investigation before meting out its own disciplinary sanctions.

Yesterday, the Estonian national team's Oliver Konsa and two other persons were arrested for suspicion of distribution of a "large amount" of cocaine.
