The high-standing economic journal writes that fighting against corruption might be dangerous and the levels of corruption varies widely.
The article mentions Latvia’s best-known anti-corruption official Juta Strike who has spent a few weeks away from the country for her own safety. It is evidence of a rising tide of sleaze in ex-communist Europe, and of the troubles, and even dangers, facing those who try to tackle it, the article adds.
It is also mentioned that corruption is hard to measure and varies widely. A few easterner countries have a reputation worse than Greece, while Estonia is cleaner than some west European countries.
